The U.S Department Of Homeland Security Announced That The Final Compliance Date For The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Program Will Be January 13, 2009. All Longshoremen Not Previously Enrolled, Should Begin The Enrollment Process Now!

Workers Will Be Required To Present Their TWIC And VPA ID At A Port Police ID Office After November 1, 2008 But Prior To January 13, 2009. VPA Police Will Then Enter Into Their Secure ID System That You Have Both A VPA And TWIC ID Card. A New VPA ID Card Will Be Issued To You At This Time. Both Cards Must Be In Your Possession At All Times. Using Your ID To Allow Someone Else Access To Secure Area's Will Result In Loss Of VPA & TWIC ID.

Those Persons Who Wish To Become Members, Are Advised That Upon Acceptance Into The Local, You Well Be Required To Obtain A TWIC DI Card, And Will Need To Apply To The Virginia Port Police For An ID Card & Criminal Background Check, Before Starting To Work. You May Obtain An Application From Your Union Official.

HRSA Will Receive Billing Information From The TWIC Center For Any Active ILA Members Who Were In The Industry Prior To 9/30/2007, And Have Accumulated At Least 1000 Hours Through Out Their Career. Those ILA Members Do Not Have To Pay For Their TWIC Card.

Any ILA Members Who Came Into The Shipping Industry After 10/1/2007 Will Be Required To Purchase Their Own TWIC Card. Once The ILA Member Has Earned/Accumulated 1000 Hours In A Contract Year, They Can Apply Through Their Union Official For Reimbursement.

Replacement Cost For Lost, Stolen Or Damaged TWIC ID: $60.00.
