Training Requirements Under the Hazardous Materials Regulations
The Federal Hazardous Materials Transportation Law (49 U.S.C. Section 5101 Et Seq.), Is The Basic Statute Regulating The Transportation Of Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) In The United States. This Law Requires The Training Of ALL Hazmat Employees. Upon Entering The Industry, All ILA Members Must Take The Hazardous Material Awareness And Security Awareness Training Programs. Those Members Who Have Previously Attended These Programs, Must Retake Them Every Three Years.
The Virginia Maratime Association Provides This Training For All ILA Members.

DOT Hazardous Materials: Additional Training InformationCurrent U.S. Department Of Transportation (USDOT) Regulations Require Training (And Retraining) Of All Employees Who Perform Work Functions Covered By The Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 171-180). Any Employee Who Works In A Shipping, Receiving Or Material Handling Area Or Who May Be Involved In Preparing Or Transporting Hazardous Materials Is Required To Have Training.
The Office Of Hazardous Materials Safety Has Prepared Training Modules That Meet The Requirements For General Awareness Training As Prescribed In Title 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart H.
